‘Work aplenty,’ as Internet jobs hit record
SYDNEY, June 7th 2005 — The good news about IT jobs continues.
The Olivier Internet Index says that in May the technology sector had its biggest increase in job vacancies so
far this year, a rise of 8.69 per cent, seasonally adjusted. IT&T bounced back from relatively flat growth of 0.48 per
cent in April, which was affected by the Easter break and school holidays.
The Internet index reached a new record high in May, with 155,738 Australian jobs listed, up 3.5 percent Group
director Robert Olivier said the creation of new jobs probably accounted for the increase. “I think there is confidence in the market and the project work seems to be coming through, with project managers and business analyst roles aplenty,” he said. On a 12-month basis, IT&T jobs are up 60.4 per cent. “I think June will be good, but July could be great for IT because there will be fresh budgets and a commitment to projects,” he said.
All IT&T categories grew last month, except Internet graphics and multimedia. Management and sales roles
were up by 388 a week. Software development and engineering offered more work, up by 391. Database development and administration grew just on 20 percent.
