Bendigo & Region skilled migration program
Like most of regional Victoria Bendigo and the surrounding region is experiencing skills shortages.
One of the key strategies to address this issue is the Skilled Migration Program which aims to attract and retain skilled migrants and their families to fill existing unfilled job vacancies.
The City of Greater Bendigo is the lead agency for the program which also includes the Shires of Loddon, Macedon Ranges, Central Goldfields and Mt. Alexander.
Robert Indrigo has been appointed as the skilled migration coordinator for the Bendigo region and is one of eleven coordinators in the state of Victoria charged with facilitating the attraction, settlement and retention of skilled migrantsto their respective regions.
Robert describes the program as requiring a collaborative partnership approach to what is a growing network of stakeholders which includes local government, employers, employer groups, DIMIA, Department for Victorian Communities, Department of Education and Training and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
The program is now half way through an initial three year program and some upcoming initiatives include a civic function for international students to celebrate their contribution to the region and to encourage retention via potential skilled job placement within the region.
The regional coordinators throughout Victoria also met in Shepparton during February to review strategies and share information about the programs progress.
By participating in the Skilled Migrant Program the Greater Bendigo region is aiming to target recruitment and selection of migrants to specific jobs that have already been identified by employers in the region.
For further information speak to Robert Indrigo at the City of Greater Bendigo on (0061 3) 5434 6247 or email to r.indrigo@bendigo.vic.gov.au
Groetjes,
Zilver (en Goud)
