Need Help with Dog Import Permit

Hi everyone  :-D

My name is Maggie and I live in Holland untill October 24 when we fly to our new life in Adeliade Austrailia.  Everything so far has been easy and stright forward untill now.

I am trying to sort out the import permit for our family dog.  She has had all her rabis shots and her rabis blood test which is all fine, but Im not sure what to do now and Im panicing a bit that I am going to run out of time and will be unable to take her with us.

Is there anyone that could help me regarding the next step to take as my Dutch is very bad.

Many thanks in advance
Maggie

Hi Maggie

Welcome on this forum. Unfortunately I can't help you, but don't panic, there are enough people here on the forum who can.

Cheers Sander

Hi Sander,

Thank you.

I try not to panic, but when I think that our flight is booked for the 24th October there is not so much time left, and we have already made a hard decision to leave our cat behind, I would hate to have to leave the dog here too :(

And I applogise in advance for not putting this message in Dutch, but it really is that bad, you would think that after 11 years I would be able to write Dutch by now

Hi Maggie,

It must be hard to leave your cat behind...thats why we take all 3 with us..and also our 3 dogs. You have to certify your  bloodtest at the VWA first unless youve already done that. (theres a form you have to send to them, together with the original test result and your dogs passport. Once you get that back, took about 2 days with us you can apply for the import permit. Did you download the complete checklist at the Aqis webiste? Your dog needs another bloodtest and vaccinations about 30 days before departure.

Good luck

Hi Inge,

Thanks for the info.  I didnt know about the other blood tests, Im not looking forward to that as the blood test for the rabis was horrible, our vet is not the nicest man on this earth, it the end it took 4 adults and a muzzle and my poor baby had tears in her eyes and was hyperventilating.  She is a Dutise Staand Kort Haar and has the best temprement, but the Vet insisted she had to be on the table and laying down and she does not like that table, if I have to take her for another I will ask him if she can sit on the floor where she is more comfortable.

I have the form and an address to send it to, do I have to send the Vet's declaration form with it???

Also if I get all the paper's sent off in the morning am I gonna have enough time to get the Permit in time????

Many thanks for your help

Maggie

Wow...what an idiot of a vet...(sorry). With our animals it all went alright and was done in a sec.

You dont need the declaration of the vet to send aswell. Only the forms I said before.

The import permit takes about 2 weeks I read somewhere.  When did your dog had his bloodtest? Adding 150 days to that and your minimum quarantaine is 30 days. Dont worry...the end of october should leave you enough time to take care of the other steps. We want to leave in november if our house gets sold before that and I didnt apply for the import permit yet cause its only valid for 6 months.

Hi ,

The blood test was done on the 3rd May 06, so I think she will only have to a minimum of 30 days when we get there :)

We have taken a gamble and have booked the flight tickets and we have not sold the house yet, its a bit scary but Im sure it will all work out ok in the end. :)

wow...that is a big gamble. I dont mind taking a bit of risk but this would be to much for me

Hi Linda,

I think when the time comes for her last blood test I will find another vet to do it, the problem is that we live in a small village so I will have to go to another town, but thats not such a big thing.

Inge, part of the reason we took the gamble is because we have to be in Oz by the 1st Feb 07 and the flights are just so expensive then and there are 6 of us going it would have been way too expensive. And also we live on a new estate and there are loads of people trying to get houses here, so I dont think it will be long before we sell.  We have someone coming along today so fingers crossed :)

Funny, we did the same thing (bought tickets without having sold our house). Worked out fine for us, and I'm sure it will for you too .

well...maybe we should do the same thing then  ......nah....better not

Ducee glad it all paid off for you  :)

Inge, be glad your not trying to sell your house in the UK, they can take ages to sell there coz of the housing market  :-o

You never know today could be our lucky day and we sell the house

Our dog Marcel is spending his last days in quarantine. If you need any information, just let me know. I know it seems like a hell of a job, getting through all those applications, blood tests and the import permit application, but it isn't that hard and your moving company as well as AQIS themselves can help you too. We worked with DTC and Marcel didn't have any troubles with the flight. His stay in the quaratine station is going very well too.
Anyway, if you have further questions, you can always ask.

Groetjes,
Sara
