Parliament gum tree faces the chop again
A condemned gum tree at the steps of Western Australia's Parliament House is again facing the chop.
The leaders of the two houses of Parliament ordered the lemon scented gum be cut down earlier this year, after a falling branch destroyed the car of Tourism Minister Mark McGowan.
The tree was granted a reprieve by the Heritage Council.
Speaker of the Lower House, Fred Riebeling, says he has now been advised the tree is unsafe by two arborists and the Botanic Parks and Gardens Authority.
He has written to the Heritage Council asking for permission to chop down the tree.
