Per 1 juli IELTS-test vereist voor 457-visum

Hallo allemaal,


Ter informatie laat ik even weten dat per 1 juli 2007 een IELTS-test is vereist om in aanmerking te komen voor het 457-visum.

Er gelden echter de volgende uitzonderingen:

Applicants will not be required to meet the English language requirement if:

- their first language is English and they are a passport holder from Canada, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States of America; or

-their nominated occupation is within the highly skilled major groups 1-3 of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO), comprising managers, administrators, professionals and associate professionals; or

- they have completed at least five years of continuous full time secondary and/or tertiary education at an institution where at least 80 percent of instruction was conducted in English or

- they are to be paid at least a salary specified in a legislative instrument (initially a gross base salary of $75 000 excluding all allowances and deductions).


These exemptions will not apply to applicants who have been nominated for a position that requires English language for licensing, registration or professional association membership.

Tougher test for 457 visa

IMMIGRATION Minister Kevin Andrews has warned potential skilled foreign workers that they must have a satisfactory level of English to obtain work after July 1.

The benchmark has been set to an average band of 4.5 on an international English language testing system (IELTS) test, unless exempted in certain special circumstances, and applies for skilled temporary workers in the 457 visa category.

"Applicants must have higher English language skills where this is required for licensing, registration or membership of a professional association in their nominated occupation," Mr Andrews said in a statement.

"Sponsors must still ensure that their employees meet the appropriate skill and English language requirements for licensing and registration and professional association membership in relevant occupations.

"This is an existing requirement and has not changed."

He said all applicants would need to detail their English language skills on their visa application form.

Also, applicants might be asked to undertake an IELTS test to demonstrate their English language skills.

"These changes will further protect and strengthen the integrity of the 457 visa scheme," Mr Andrews said.

Ik dacht dat je voor een 457 (sponsor visum) altijd al een ielts moest doen? Dat is dus niet zo.

Als ik het goed begrijp moet de hoofdaanvrager vanaf 1 juli as een ielts doen en de meelifters dus niet?

Dit zijn denk ik alle applicants op een 457 visum? Of alle main applicants?

Maar 4,5 overall moet wel te doen zijn; is ook wel handig als je op dat niveau zit als je hier gaat wonen

Volgens mij hoeft nu alleen de hoofdaanvrager de IELTS te doen en de meelifter niet.
En per 1 july moeten alle aanvragers de IELTS test doen.

Voor mijn 457 hoefde ik geen IELTS te doen en andere mensen die ik ken met een 457 hoefden dat ook niet te doen. Wel moet je een IELTS doen als je bijvoorbeeld als teacher of nurse aan de slag wil. Maar dat is voor je registration en niet voor het visum

Hallo,

Mijn vrouw en ik willen samen met onze 2 kids naar Australie emigreren op 'n 457.

Nu staat mijn beroep op de ASCO lijst onder professionals (soil scientist) en dat van mijn vrouw waarschijnlijk niet.

Als ik het goed heb begrepen dan hoef ik dus geen IELTS-test te doen en omdat mijn vrouw met mij "meelift" ook niet.

Kan iemand dit bevestigen??

begrijp ik het goed dat als je een salaris boven de 70.000 dollar verdiend je geen IELTS hoeft te doen?

Ik heb op de link gekeken (http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/changes-eng-req.htm) en daar staat de tekst:

"All primary applicants must meet the English language requirement unless they have been nominated for a position that does not require English language for licensing or registration and any one of the following exempted person categories apply:" [de tekstaanpassingen vetgedrukt, cursief en onderstreept zijn van mij! - L]

Daaronder dan het lijstje wat hierboven ook staat. In mijn geval (aanvraag 457) klopt dat wel: ik heb geen IELTS-eis gezien tot nu toe en zit boven de 70K.

Ook in AUS geldt blijkbaar dat alles te koop is...  :roll:
