Suspend temporary working visas: ACTU
The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is calling for an immediate suspension of temporary working visas until there has been a public inquiry into the use of overseas workers.
It says employers are sponsoring workers into the country, exploiting them and driving down the conditions for Australian workers.
ACTU president Sharan Burrow says the 457 visas are particularly shameful.
"We're calling on the Government to stop the use of these visas and put a moratorium on the use of temporary visas until there's been a full public inquiry," she said.
"We've written to the Ombudsman.
"We're frustrated that it seems to be taking an age for this government authority to do anything about looking at this situation."
