Zijn hier ook voetballiefhebbers?

Okay; vreemd genoeg zijn hier al twee topics met de naam 'hiddink'.
Maar ik ben toch wel benieuwd of hier op dit forum ook mensen zitten die van voetbal houden en die in het bijzonder ook wat afweten van het voetbal in Australie.
Hoe sterk is het team van Australie eigenlijk?
Wat voor talent loopt er zoal rond?
En wat voor soort competitie heeft het momenteel?
Het schijnt dat er voor het eerst een full-prof-competitie is opgezet, genaamd; Hyundai-league. Wat ik er ondermeer vreemd aan vind is dat er ook een team uit Nieuw-Zeeland aan meedoet; New-Zealand Knights. En ik heb gelezen dat er gemiddeld daar maar zo'n 3000 toeschouwers komen. In Nederland zou er dan helemaal geen sprake kunnen zijn van een full-prof-team. Ja okay, RKC en Sparta bijvoorbeeld hebben ook weleens dat aantal toeschouwers gehad, maar die clubs hebben natuurlijk ook veel meer een historie opgebouwd.
Het schijnt ook dat Melbourne en Sydney de absolute voetbalsteden van Australie zijn, maar dat Perth, Adelaide en Brisbane wel in opkomst zijn.
Enfin; ik ben naar veel dingen over het voetbal in Australie (en Oceanie) wel benieuwd.
Wie weet daar meer over?
 
Okay; zie inmiddels dat deze topic is verplaatst naar Kletsdoos. Is ook prima.
Maar eh; beetje weinig animo nog voor deze topic. Wel jammer.
Waar ik eigenlijk wel erg benieuwd naar ben is of de beide wedstrijden tussen Australie en Uruguay in Nederland ergens te volgen zijn. Ik heb al wel op Eurosport.nl gekeken, maar daar stond alleen wat over WK-play-offs en verder niets over Australie.
Weet iemand hier misschien meer over?
 
Ik denk niet dat het uitblijven van reacties per se ligt aan gebrek aan animo. Het feit dat niemand er meer van weet, weegt zwaarder denk ik. Het is inderdaad lastig meer informatie te vinden, maar ik denk wel dat Eurosport er aandacht aan zal besteden.
 
Niet als het aan mij ligt.....
Bij mij is het echt gebrek aan animo....sterker nog....meer afschuw van voetbal....

Mij zul je dus ook niet tv zien kijken tijdens de Wereldkampioenschappen of Europese kampioenschappen....tenminste niet naar een wedstrijd.....

(en uit echte antipathie heb ik geweigerd vorig jaar mijn oranje shirt te dragen tijdens de kampioenschappen)
 
Ieder z'n meug, zullen we maar zeggen.

Overigens heb ik ook moeite met het dragen van een oranje shirt. Dat komt dan meer door de associatie met het koninklijk huis, waar ik dan weer een hekel aan heb.

Zo hebben we allemaal wat.

Gisteren was hier op het nieuws dat Uruguay een probleemtje had.  De charter vlucht naar Australie voor de 2e wedstrijd is geannuleerd!

Verder weet ik er niets van.

Injured Forlan included in Uruguay squad

Uruguay have included striker Diego Forlan in their squad for the two-leg World Cup playoff against Australia, even though his Spanish club Villareal said last week that it was unlikely he could play.

Forlan was part of a 27-man squad named by coach Jorge Fossati for the games in Montevideo on Saturday and Sydney on November 16.

Villarreal said last Friday that tests revealed Forlan had torn a muscle in his left leg during the 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League two days earlier. They said he could be sidelined for up to three weeks.

Uruguayan media quoted Forlan on Sunday as saying that he was confident of playing.

"Fortunately, I'm not feeling any pain," he said.

"I can walk normally, without problems, and everything makes me think I could be ready for Saturday's meeting."

Striker Javier Chevanton, who scored five goals in the South American qualifying group, was left out following his recent row with the coach.

Chevanton said he did not expect to play again while Fossati was coach and, although Fossati later said he would excuse Chevantos's comments, he did not include the player in the squad.

Uruguay earned the right to a playoff by finishing fifth in the South American group.

The two countries also met for a place at the 2002 finals with Uruguay winning 3-1 on aggregate.

The South Americans are expected a tougher match this time, however.

"Australia have got much more experience, they've been through this before," said midfielder Gonzalo De Los Santos.

"I think it's going to be more difficult."

Heel erg bedankt voor je bericht, Syl  :up:
Tsjonge jonge als ik zo die selectie van Uruguay bekijk, dan lijkt Australie er niet best voor te staan. Spelers van Real Madrid (2x), Villareal (2x), Valencia (2x), Inter, Juventus, Schalke (2x), Rosenborg en nog veel meer. Australie lijkt haast gewoon kansloos. Als Uruguay echt als een team gaat spelen vrees ik het ergste eigenlijk....
Wat is eigenlijk de selectie van Australie? Ik kan deze nergens vinden.
Op zaterdag 12 november is dus de 1e wedstrijd in Uruguay om ca 23.45 uur Nederlandse tijd.
Helaas gaat Eurosport de wedstrijd niet uitzenden, dus weet ik niet goed waar ik het dan zou kunnen volgen. Heeft iemand misschien enig idee?
Op woensdag 16 november is de return in Australie om 10.00 uur Nederlandse tijd.
Op de laatstgenoemde datum zit ik helaas rond die tijd dan waarschijnlijk net in de trein van Groningen naar Utrecht om daar een toets te moeten. Da's echt balen. Dan gauw maar een internetcafe opzoeken in Utrecht na de toets  :cry:  .

Je kunt hier ook de Australische selectie vinden. Veel Australische voetballers spelen trouwens in Europa, veelal in Engeland maar twee van hen in Nederland (Jason Culina - PSV en Tony Vidmar - NAC)

Het is hier in het nieuws echt een beetje een non-event, er wordt nauwelijks aandacht aan besteed. Op tv zie je alleen voetbal op SBS (free-to-air) of Foxtel (commercial).

SBS heeft vorige week bevestigd dat het beide qualificatie wedstrijden uitzendt.

Ik kom uit een voetbalgekke familie dus het was even wennen dat het in Australie zo onbelangrijk is. Al lijkt het wel dat er - na de start van de A-league en nu er een kleine kans op WK qualificatie is - nu meer aandacht voor is dan voorheen.

Het EK vorig jaar was grotendeels live te volgen en wat ik wel grappig vond is dat veel 2e of 3e generatie Italiaanse en Griekse Aussies dan ineens weer helemaal achter hun oorspronkelijke moederland staan. Zelf zat ik ook in mijn oranje KNVB shirt om half vijf 's ochtend voor de tv natuurlijk.

Maar na vier jaar hier ben ik inmiddels, mede dankzij mijn Australische man, grotendeels omgeschakeld naar meer Australische sporten zoals rugby en cricket...
 
:-D Nou, wij hebben hier ook met het dauw op onze ogen zitten kijken!! Het blijft toch wel leuk. We zaten 's ochtends vroeg met wat vrienden (die ongeveer midden in de nacht uit de Gold Coast kwamen) aan en lekker vet Aussie ontbijt inclusief sausages & bacon  :-o (ben zelf normaal meer van de Cornflakes-achtige :))

Grappig is trouwens wel dat voetbal (soccer) hier razend populair is voor zowel jongens als meisjes op de lagere school.....maar daarna verwaterd het langzaam.

Wij kijken in ieder geval....

Geloven de kenners hierzo een beetje in de kansen van de socceroos? Ik word echt niet vrolijk van al die grote namen bij Uruguay; Montero, Diogo, Garcia, Recoba, Zalayeta en nog veel meer. Gelukkig doet Forlan waarschijnlijk niet mee.....
Komt die wedstrijd nou op SBS6 of wordt hier gesproken over een andere SBS?

Nee, is inderdaad "onze" SBS hier in Australia! De enige ietwat multiculturele zender, we hebben in de bijna tien jaar dat wij hier zijn "Flodder" zelfs al een paar keer voorbij zien schuiven :) (en All Stars) maar verder een hoop Japanse, Chinese, Duitse, Spaanse, etc. films en dus sport! oh en niet te vergeten de Iron Chef....maar we dwalen af :-D

Da's echt balen zeg; kan ik helemaal niets zien :-( . Moet ik de tussenstand op vi.nl maar zien te volgen.....  :-( . Denk toch maar dat ik naar dat goa-trance-feestje ga op zaterdag......  :roll: . Ik zag trouwens op eurosport.nl dat er op zondag om 11.15 uur samenvattingen van de play-off-wedstrijden worden uitgezonden (maar weet dus niet of Australie hier bij zit).

Socceroos concentrate on qualifying

Socceroos stars Vince Grella and Marco Bresciano have a blunt message for World Cup playoff rival Uruguay - play all the pre-match mind games you want, we'll see you out on the field.

After a week of political and logistical posturing by Uruguay featuring complaints over referees, battles over kick-off times and one-upmanship over charter flights, the Socceroos appear to be using Uruguay's cynical off-field tactics to strengthen their determination to cope with anything thrown at them once they're on the ground.

Already the Uruguayans had shifted the kickoff time for the first leg in Montevideo from 4pm on Saturday local time to 9pm local time after booking a charter flight convinced the Socceroos would not be able to do so themselves.

That backfired when the Socceroos organised a charter plane and Uruguay's fell through, with Uruguay then trying to shift the kickoff forward again to 5pm to service their own needs and football's world governing body FIFA being hauled in to arrange a compromise.

Uruguay also complained - and succeeded - in having the Belgian referee originally appointed to the second leg match in Sydney ditched for a Spanish official.

And it emerged Uruguay will send several fresh players to Sydney this week ahead of the return leg on November 16 at Telstra Stadium to help gain an advantage.

News reports from Uruguay indicate that suspended trio Diego Lugano, Omar Pouso and Gustavo Varela and several others will fly in early to Australia as an advance party to rest ahead of the decisive leg of the tie.

None of this appears to be worrying the Socceroos, with Grella and Bresciano saying that what happened in the two games was important - not any mind games or pre-match smoke and mirrors from Uruguay.

"The most important thing is what we do on the park," Grella said.

"The rest is just going to be all talk before this game because it's a long week and we're going to have to talk about something.

"It's all going to depend (on Sunday) who's the better team."

Security, and the possibility of an angry mob greeting them at Montevideo Airport as happened when they last ventured their four years ago for the World Cup playoff, also appears not to be fazing the Socceroos.

Bresciano, who was part of the Socceroos squad spat on, kicked and punched on arrival at Montevideo in 2001, ahead of three days holed up in the team hotel before a match they lost 3-0, said the issue would not loom large in the team's minds ahead of the match.

"We're much more confident as a team, the preparation is much better, and this time we have no excuses," Bresciano said.

"From players and coaching staff, everyone's put in their hundred per cent.

"It all comes down to experience. If you experience something, you'll know what to expect, what's going to happen and how to prepare yourself.

"They're doing what they doing to try to make it worse for us, but they're just trying to look after their own.

"But at the end of the day it's 11 versus 11 - and that (on the field) is where it's going to be decided."

A Uruguay Football Association spokesman reportedly said an initial party "of seven or eight players" would arrive in Sydney later this week to give them more time to recover from the journey ahead of the second leg at Telstra Stadium on November 16.

"They are players who are either suspended or the coach is saving for the second leg so they are in better condition," the spokesman said.

Another group would leave immediately after the game on Sunday (AEDT) and the final group the next day.

Tsja; het begint nu toch allemaal wel echt spannend te worden hoor. Er wordt een hele strijd al uitgevochten. Hopelijk kunnen de socceroos hun hoofd erbij houden en vooral als team blijven spelen en zich niet laten aftroeven door de vele individuele kwaliteiten van Uruguay.

Op het nieuwe wereldbekertoernooi in Tokyo zal FC Sydney trouwens Oceanie gaan vertegenwoordigen. Dit toernooi is van 11 tot 18 december, genaamd; de Toyota Cup. Sydney FC zal eerst moeten aantreden tegen de kampioen van Afrika of Azie of Noord-midden-Amerika. Vervolgens speelt de winnaar in de halve finale tegen de kampioen van Zuid-Amerika (Sao Paolo) of Europa (Liverpool).
Momenteel staan trouwens FC Sydney en Adelaide United bovenaan in de Australische competitie. De overige ploegen staan er redelijk vlak achter. Alleen New Zealand Nights valt nogal uit de toon. Hier trouwens de link naar de Australische competitie; http://www.a-league.com
