Top End awaits monsoon
The northern monsoon could arrive on our Top End shores within three weeks.
The latest indication from the Bureau of Meteorology is welcome news to those in the Northern Territory's parched outback.
Climate services manager Sam Cleland says there are signs of an early monsoon.
"Climatologically, around about Christmas is the average date of onset," he said.
"This pulse that travels around the globe, it can get disrupted along the way. But once it gets here, we need a little bit of support to it, from other tropical influences.
"Certainly a trough going through southern Australia, a big trough going through southern Australia, would help it along it's way as well.
"So we have a few things that still have to fall into place, so the timing can't be too specific."
